Prof. Dr. Dirk De Ridder

Professor of Neurosurgery, Neuroscientist & Co-Founder

Prof. Dr. Dirk De Ridder is professor of Neurosurgery at the Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago (New Zealand), specializing in neuromodulation and phantom perceptions such as tinnitus and chronic pain. His research focuses on thalamocortical dysrhythmias (pain, tinnitus, Parkinson's disease, depression) and reward system dysfunctions (addiction, OCD).

He developed the “Burst” and “Noise” stimulation concepts for implants and is continuously researching new brain stimulation techniques. In addition, he is:
- Visiting professor at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), where he investigates neuromodulation effects with Prof. Dr. Sven Vanneste.
- Co-opted Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Bonn (Germany), where he is studying new brain implantation techniques with Prof. Dr. Maciaczyk.
- Adjunct Faculty at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India), where he studies neuromodulation for rehabilitation.

He co-edited several books, including the “Textbook of Tinnitus”, has published 300+ scientific articles and is a reviewer for 100+ scientific journals.

As co-founder of BRAI3N, he remains committed to integrating science and clinical practice.
